it's not about mental illness

Perhaps you saw a meme recently, addressing mental illness vs other qualities of most school (and many mass) shooters. The gist is this: mass shooters are NOT disproportionately mentally ill. They ARE, however, disproportionately white men.

(Admittedly, I'm not generally a fan of memes. But the above facts are simple enough that an image can encompass them.)

Inevitably, these facts provoke white fragility:

You see, identifying patterns like gender and race don't help!

I was happy to see that at least one man on the thread pointed out this deflection. But I wanted to give a clearer context:
